I came across this pair of Art Deco Sterling Silver & Marcasite Clips in my travels and even though it's not marked in any way, I just had to buy it for two reasons:
1. Someone has gone to the trouble of having a custom back made in order to keep wearing it after the rage for two piece clips had passed. Both clips clip onto this back "frame" with its safety chain and pin. This immediately told me it had great worth to whomever owned it (sentimental or monetary) as having dealt with jewellers for such matters in the past, I know how expensive having such items made can be.
2. Around the outer edge of each marcasite bearing channel, the manufacturing jeweller has used the Milgrain technique, a difficult to achieve technique usually reserved for the finest jewellery.
More than anything else, I just adored the shape & form of the piece.
I have tested it with acids and a touch stone & it tests as .925 Silver so it's not worth a fortune but very pretty and decorative.
