Here's something recently snagged from an online auction, because the price was right and it looked otherwise TOO COOL to pass up??
It is a SUPERVENUS (R) 12 volt search/spotlight in a chromed case with handle, toggle switch, and adjustable magnetic base, made by OPTRONICS, INC. of FT. GIBSON, OKLA. U.S.A. Its light source is a General Electric 'sealed beam' bulb with a unique 'blue eye' pattern on its face (pic 2) apparently designed to help focus the beam of light and allow it to cut through fog or haze in the air.
I've found reference online suggesting it is a 400,000 CP (candlepower) bulb and indeed it is *bright as h*ll* and throws a crazy distinct beam of light a LONG way -- pic 4 shows it while testing outside by my truck in the driveway, brightly illuminating a treetop about a block down my street and probably a hundred feet up...that's the spot seen to the left of the streetlight in the foreground -- the tree in the spot would be several houses further away than the most distant streetlight seen, for perspective. There's little doubt it projects its beam even further, but that's just the farthest away 'handy thing' I could point it at then...?
I don't know how old it is, but will guess 1960's-ish since that just 'seems right'...??

I realized with a start, somewhat after my 'testing session' with the light outside under the hood of the truck, that I really SHOULD have confirmed the thing is actually *meant* to operate on 12volts...it isn't marked...I just assumed...but 6volts was once common in cars too...how HAPPY I remain that I didn't accidentally blow up the lightbulb the first time I tried it... <eeek><nono><WHEW...>
