Here you can see an example of extremely craftsmanship from the 19th century. This 18 k Micro Mosaic Octagonal Scarab Beetle Pendant is approximately 1840's and there is no tesserae missing. The lovely scarab beetle has varying shades of blue, black, gold and red and amazing details. The beetle rests on a oxagonal bed of white mosaic tiles with a lovely intricate border of red, white and blue. The arms, legs, antennae and wings of the beetle are also incorporated into the white background. The pendant is set in a 18K gold oxagonal bezel setting. The 3-dimensional design of the beetle and the gold setting makes this piece very unusual and wonderful. You will understand that I am very happy with this beautiful jewel. On the last photo two beetle Micro Mosaic pendants. The long one I showed at an earlier date here on this site and this pendant is goldplated. My newest one is set in 18K gold.
Scarab beetles were a good symbol of the Egyptians for a very long time, so I would like too perhaps help these long life symbols a bit, you never know!
