They spelled 'American' wrong on their badge, but here is a circa 1915 American Beauty Toaster from the American Electrical Heater Co. of Detroit, Michigan.

I will get a plug to fit the prongs and hopefully put it back into service when I get it cleaned up.

The tray over the heating elements must be for heating something else, like butter.
    2. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
I'd be afraid it would melt the butter.

That would probably be the idea. OK, maybe Marmite. LOL !

That's great SB. Actually, it used to say something like: "You either love it or hate it". It does have an interesting taste & is quite good on toast to me. I think CW is good therapy for you.

I love old toasters. I don't think I have one this old. Looks rather Zen.

Very nice old toaster!!! Love it...... Have you tried Vegemite?? much better than Marmite I think!!

I'm with you on the Vegemite Judy.
Note to Americans - you just smear a little bit on, not like jam!

Marmite is made from yeast isn't it, so what is the diff. between the two ? They would both be veggie, right ? I've heard of vegimite, but not sure if they sell it here in the Wayward Islands.

BB2...just had a quick read of the ingredients on the vegemite jar.......Yeast extract (from yeast grown on barley and wheat) and malt extract from barley.... plus others salt, flavours etc. Don't know if that makes it different to Marmite lol.......but if you do come across any Vegemite, give it a try and see what you think!!

Judy! Then Bb2 will change for Vegemite brownies ;-))

Great toaster, I bet your toast won't stay stuck in it and burn! Need one!!!

So Pascale....this would be good??? or not???

Kyra, I can't imagine using either in brownies. Ugh!

I happened to take the plastic head off another prong-insert receiver for some old whatever (that part's irrelevant, but I think it was for a '50s coffee maker) and slid the prongs into the freed pieces then plugged it in.
AKA I found a cord that still wouldn't fit and took the head off to make it fit.
The toaster heated up and began smoking. :/
