Reginald Gardiner Miniature on Celluloid 1931
The portrait is painted on celluloid and is a hand-painted. It features the actor Reginald Gardiner. I believe that the artist signature written to the left of the image may read "Mae Leo '31."
Measures approximately 4" tall by 3" wide.
Reginald Gardiner (27 February 1903 – 7 July 1980) was an English-born actor in film and television and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. His parents wanted him to be an architect, but he insisted on a career as an actor. He was Hedy Lamarr's lover.
I was told that this item came from Reginald Gardiner's estate.
Could the name of the artist be MacLeod?
