The University of California at Berkeley has been a hotbed of protest and political activism but in 1971 Hippie fashion was in full bloom and the mood was a bit more relaxed. Just a year earlier the campus had been occupied by uniformed police in riot gear and National Guard troops but none of that tension is evident in this gathering of student life.
Jericho Ann Poppler (Bartlow), in 1971, was a Southern California young lady attending a Northern California college. She was a dance major with a talent for illustration and a love of surfing. As far as I know, illustration remained just a hobby and a dance career never took off but she was and remained a championship level surfer (US Champion, 1970; IPS World Champion, 1976) who was elected to the Surfing Walk of Fame (Huntington Beach, CA) in 1997.
