      Interesting. I've never seen one of these.

      Interesting sword. Looks to be a standard naval officer's sword until you see the letters on the guard.

      He must have been commissioned just prior to the creation of the Coast Guard or just purchased an older example of the sword. The US Revenue Cutter Service (USRCS) combined with the Life Saving Service in 1915 to form the Coast Guard.
