Oh, I do love baking pies….learned most of my skills from my mother who could make cloud-like fluffy meringue using just the old manual hand-cranked egg beater. I use an electric one though.
    1. Ice Cream pie with chocolate crust
    2. Lemon meringue and Lime meringue pies
    3. Individual size Banana Pudding
    4. Individual size Apple pies

But today 3/14/23 isn’t Pie Day….it’s the other one- the math one: pi, whose digits are usually shortened to 3.14.

I’m bringing up pi today because I recently got to use it to determine the capacity of an old Delphos metal fuel can from my dad’s shed.
I learned it is a 2 gallon can by using this equation: “volume = pi x radius squared x height”.
Math was my least favorite subject in school so when this formula gave me the answer I was looking for, my head must have swelled a size or two. ;^)

Anyway you want your pie/pi, it’s pi’s special day today. Enjoy both varieties!

Yum! Just flirting with the idea of baking my first pie (cherry or apppe)! Have everything to do it, just working on my will power...

Thank you MrVynil and kwqd for the quick loves and the comment. :^)
More power to you on baking the pie. I’ve promised to bake an apple pie for someone so I need to get on with it myself!

      The desserts look great!
What type of apples do you use for the individual pies? My wife and I recently switched making apple pies from Granny Smiths to Honeycrisps. The Honeycrisps sweet flavor also intensifies while baking, becoming fun and complex.
I remember pi as 22/7 since pi is an irrational number where the digits do not repeat... 3.14159926 and so on 3.14 is close enough soooo..... Happy Pi day :)

Fort and Falcon, thanks for the loves!
Flacon, my apples of choice are Fuji for their sweetness and also Golden Delicious because they are a softer apple. For the little apple tarts, I used a combination of Red and Golden Delicious to make them more colorful since the peels were left on.
      Honeycrisp sounds great also.
Happy baking and Happy Calculating with pi!

Happy Pi(e) Day! All your pies are awesome, I'll have one of those individual apple tarts in #4, they're almost too pretty to eat

Newfld, I’m not bragging but I must say they were delicious! Warm and just the right amount of sweetness, crispy crust, yum! Next time I make them, I’ll double the recipe. :^D

      Hi Patricia,
Just popping in to say Hi! And saw your wonderful pie display. Brought back wonderful memories ( these are the best posts!) Owning an apple ranch, people always would ask what was the best apple for pies ? My Mother's answer was Golden Delicious! I was so happy to see you use them too! We had Pippin and Rhode Island Greenings for a tarter pie but most love a sweet pie, right!?
My Mother also made homemade Lemon Meringue pies! My Brother's favorite as I always went for the Pumpkin. Bet your kitchen smells just dreamy!
( I don't post anymore but drop in on occasion to say hi to friends I miss) Take care and am enjoying the Spring weather after a very wet Winter here in California.. which we needed! No more drought!

PHEOBE1980, thanks for the nice comment! Your mother and I think alike about Golden Delicious making the best pies….topped with a big scoop of vanilla icecream! Your brother’s favorite- pumpkin - is also in demand around here. I have some pumpkin seeds to plant soon just for the fun of seeing what they produce. Pies will definitely be baked!
I’m glad to hear weather conditions in your area have improved. That must be a tremendous relief!
