This is quite a sweet piece, a little Victorian datebook. It is made of tortoise shell, the floral designs on the front are solid 14k gold inlay with some sterling. I examined it under a microscope and it is definitely not plated or anything, its actual gold inlay. The centerpiece is a hardstone pietra dura / micro mosaic scene of birds drinking from a bowl. The page inside is made of elephant ivory and the pencil is sterling silver. The people had no idea what it was...

Stunning and very very rare and beautiful, my compliment what a find for hardly "nothing". If I had not such an outstanding collection Micro Mosaic I could be jealous! It's called pique with Micro Mosaic. No Pietra Dura that is inlaid with hard stones. This is real Micro Mosaic The Doves of Plini!!
    Really fantastic!!!!!
