    AnythingOb…
    (1778 items)

Its (finally!!) that time of year, when the days are getting longer again and stuff is starting to come 'back to life' after the generally dreary winter season. WOO HOO!!! :-) :-) :-)

This is the ("Bradford pear", I think?) tree by the driveway in front of my 'mid-century modest' little house, which itself otherwise contains most of the rest of the crap I post up on CW. ;-) These trees are very common around here and are always one of the first 'landscape' things to burst into bloom every year all over town, just slightly before most everything else starts popping out its fresh springtime growth/color. The flowers won't last too long, another week or so and it's new leaves will begin to take over for the rest of the year...they'll hold on until next fall slightly after most other trees/etc start dropping theirs, then in the course of a certain week or so will dump 'em *all* on my driveway in a day or two. <groan> This tree, incidentally, also seems to be the chosen 'home' for a certain little 'red headed woodpecker' bird. (I know nothing in particular about birds...he has a red head, has otherwise sorta completely perforated the bark of the tree in a kinda incredible fashion, and has seemingly lived there since before I bought the house?)

    Oh well...HAPPY SPRINGTIME, Y'ALL!! :-) :-) :-)

Anythingobscure we had a Jacaranda tree that did the same on our driveway. I went to Sears and bought a big shop vac with a 2 inch hose and used that to clean the mess. Vac the lawn and driveway

THANKS SO VERY MUCH to: Roycroftbooksfromme1, keramikos, kyratango,AdeleC, EJW-54, yougottahavestuff, Brunswick, TimeTraveller, blunderbuss2, vetraio50, Newfld, Newfld, Watchsearcher, & Broochman for stopping by and leaving your <love it>s and nice comments!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

That'd be the correct species indeed keramikos, everything in that WaPo article is pretty much spot-on. It does indeed send out 'runners' all around itself (even completely underneath the driveway on the other side?!) trying to turn itself into a forest, and its also has had some kind of 'fracture event' in the past that got fixed with an iron bolt now holding its halves together. The woodpecker's 'evidence' on it looks like that but **much more** dramatically so -- I just added a 4th pic that shows his perforations (which go all the way up and down its trunk all the way around) and the bolt. He's a cute little guy anyway, when he's around he makes a call that's nearly like a kitty cat's 'meow' and sometimes even seems to sorta answer me when I mimic it...? ;-) :-)

Broochman, oddly enough it has basically no fragrance whatsoever despite all the spectacular blooms....go figure...? :-)

Our Bradford Pears provide feasts for birds during Winter and they are beautiful when in bloom! They are far enough from the house not to be offensive with the not-so-pleasant smell, limb breakage or leaf-dump.
      And regarding the invasiveness!
I find the all over my property and try to dig them up while small; it won't do any good just to cut them off, they just re-grow. There are several that I didn't even know about until I saw tall trees in bloom at the edge of the woods beyond where we mow. They are Bradford Pear trees, acres away from the parent trees.
But at least I don't have kudzu or wisteria running amuck! ;-)

MORE THANKS to: fortapache, MooreAntique, gargoylecollector, and aura for your additional <love it>s! :-) :-) :-) Keramikos, I think my little 'flying drill bit' is probably closer to that sapsucker...it isn't as big (and doesn't sound anything like) the other bird...? And I just doublechecked -- for all those thousands of tiny little flowers (which actually started dropping petals today, my neighbor's car looked like it got snowed on...I already told y'all they don't last for long...) there is not, in fact, any particular 'aroma' to it. <shrug> And I love wisteria too for that matter (though don't have one in my yard) as they're the closest thing to lilacs that will grow here...we always had a lilac bush somewhere in the yard when I was growing up, and I miss them...
