Sleeper alert! This was my most recent find on eBay, an interesting example of Victorian art glass which has previously been attributed to Thomas Webb & Sons, known as "Moroccan". It also gets attributed to Harrach.
I had not seen an example in all my 30 - plus years of collecting glass, so when this turned up as part of a two item job lot on eBay AU I was pretty keen to make it mine. (Though not so keen on the other item, a 1980s Avon bottle!)
There were a couple of other bidders in the mix but I swooped in at the last moment & got it for a bargain price.
It is made from a single layer of opaque white glass which has been painted light yellow, then decorated with highly detailed abstract designs & stylised floral patterns, some of it in raised enameling. The "genie bottle" shape is pretty cool.
The vase measures 23 cm tall, 3.6 cm across the top rim, & 6.5 cm across the base.
i like it but the Aussies brothers will know one of the moorish tapestry,always thought it was Thomas Webb
Thanks apostata - the Harrach ID on this style seems to be more recent - older reference books etc lean towards Webb. I'm really pleased to have got this, I love the colour scheme & the complexity of the decoration.
i think you are right , haven,t put much effort in this , they Aussie brothers will do it , they are next to Einstein , they are the best in the business
Excellent piece Marin. Harrach seems to be getting most of the credit these days. I do believe they are Bohemian, not English. While Harrach may have produced a "Persian" décor in-house, they (and others) sold blanks that were decorated in finishing houses elsewhere. These "Persian/Moroccan" décors need a good deal more clarification.

Yes, I'm pretty thrilled with this, & it's definitely a style that's worthy of ongoing research/information. Just a quick image search shows this type of decor has many variations & shapes. Really interesting!

It's not the only time I've ended up with something unwanted from a job lot...
Bernard, I've already consigned it to my repository of random stuff I'm either going to sell or don't know quite what to do with...I have a feeling it might end up going on a little trip to an op shop though...
It's a mustard coloured vase/bottle in a faux Oriental design. Not exactly my vibe...
A great example of the genre. I like the plain colour areas which show the full on patterned areas to better effect.

Glad you found my post interesting...I'd been aware of this decor through seeing images in books & online over the years but this was my first opportunity of finding one for sale. What I really love about collecting is all the constant learning that goes with it - & all the still unknown things out there waiting to be found...
So nice to see this attributed correctly..Marin..they are lovely vases that! deserve to be, as you say, far too often Webb incorrectly …I have a couple myself, and love them.

I think some of the old attributions are possibly due to certain early reference books that were published in the UK...plus a general lack of info about Bohemian glass because of the mid - later 20th century "Iron Curtain" era. Of course, a huge amount of information on 19th century art glass was also lost due to two world wars...
