Warning signs are clearly posted at the E runway in St. Maarten but people still hang onto the fence while jets rev-up & takeoff. Cars are sometimes blown across the beach into the ocean & personal injuries are common. More than one has had to be medi-vaced out.
For those who want to come down & try this "sport", afternoons after 2: & the 747's are best/worst.
I added a pic from my place. The runway is dead centre. The causeway & Lucas bridge cross the lagoon & end next to the W end of the runway.

I have seen the videos. They duck down behind the guardrail and hold on the chain link fence. Some guy will always let go of the fence and gets blown across the road.

Adrenaline junkies (or idiots). I did cliff diving in Jamaica so don't qualify as a judge. In your video Fort, where they show the mountain/hill, my place is in those houses just to the right. Yes. It can get noisy in the late afternoon if the planes are really loaded. I'll find a good pic from my place showing my view of the other end.
Notice how the signs are on the inside of the fence so people can't steal them.

I was thinking you lived on that hillside as you posted some photos from the opposite view. Looks like fun to me. Standing 10 feet from freight train going 50 mph is fun too. No base jumping, skiing and so on for me though.

Fort, I just luv the way you handled the role. I really wasn't sure you would be that sharp! You're in the 1%ers . LOL !
And Trey. Past hurricanes are a subject we avoid here. Bad etiquette !
Fort. To be honest, they are, until the winds go over 110 mph. That's HPT ! (Hurricane Party Time). We often get caught in SFS (Serious F'ng Shit). Because of their usual wobble, you don't know exactly where the worst part is going to hit. Route between HPT & home can be deadly. I can write chapters on what we see & want to forget. Smell of death, rot, millions of flies & merde I don't want to talk about. Luis in 1995 left over 800 dead & the releases to protect the tourist trade was "1 dead on the Fr. side & 1 dead on the Dutch side, while we had bodies floating in the lagoon & around the island ! Said more than enough !
Thank you very much blunderbuss2 as I continue in my role. Sadly I enjoy earthquakes as I have never suffered any serious losses. What I don't like is brush fires. In 2007 two hundred homes burned down very close to me. The closest was a quarter mile away. Had to evacuate. The only way they got me to evacuate is that I was already down the hill and they wouldn't let me back up.

Virginia.v. Just another place to live & work now. When I had my club in Jamaica, it was what you are thinking. Partying, scuba, snorkeling, beaches, exploring, diff. girl (or 2) every nite , etc. Things change with time. Haven't gotten in the ocean or been on a beach (near the water) in maybe 4 yrs.. I've never known Jacky to go to the beach for a swim & have thought about asking her to put on a bikini to leave something to the imagination. Just another place to live but don't think I will trade for any place in CA, HI or Pittsburgh !!

Fort, I'm going to have to (re) commend you on what a great job you have done with your poste ! Gave me time to work on becoming Dutch. All I lack now is having my hair cut using a bowl & having my teeth spaced. LOL !!
