This piece did not photograph well at all for me!
A paperweight made from clear glass it has a mosaic glass top. The mosaic glass has been put together from a pieces of glass in purple, greys, and silver. Each piece has been blown, cut to size, put together and then picked up on a clear gather of glass. The clear has been carefully formed to make a tapered cylinder. The only part of this paperweight that has been polished is the base.
There is an incredible amount of skill used here in what appears to be a simple piece of glass.
Takeshi Sano is a master of mosaic glass and he produces one off pieces from his studio at Aoyama. He shares his studio with his wife Youko Sano, also an amazing glass artist. The last picture shows their two different styles with this piece from Takeshi and a small bowl from Youko.
Fantastic mosaic paperweight, the prismatic glass is so beautiful and can reflect a rainbow of color. Lovely green bowl as well, great artist
Sensational
Thanks Kevin
Jenni thanks my friend. You know I love to see your responses.
I think this is fascinating. Even with an explanation it's hard to get a handle on how the parts fit together. If it didn't photograph well it must be wonderful to see in reality.
It is a lovely piece thanks Peggy and it still amazes me how such a seemingly simple thing was made.
