In the 1930s, the Loetz factory took a retrospective look at older forms and decors, and updated them with fresh new looks. In this case, an older form (similar to Series I-7864 or II-656) received an updated look. Colorless glass is inlaid with densely packed silvery-yellow festoons of glass pulled around the middle of the vase, reaching peaks inside each rim indentation. There is currently a bowl identical to this one in the Glasmuseum Passau in the Loetz cabinet of unidentified deco era decors; however, the museum version has the festoons peaking between, rather than inside, the rim folds. This piece was sold with a metal mount that was clearly not made for this bowl, so it is being "re-purposed". I like it better this way!

Just wanted to add an update - Warren does not now think this is a Loetz decor. Evidence points to either Kralik or Poshinger as potential makers.
