At the Palm Springs Air Museum there are five very large scale ship models. Personally I think these are some of the most interesting displays in the museum as they are very well detailed and unique. These are all US warships.
Starting off is the USS Missouri BB63. It is an Iowa class battleship. I may have gone with a different class because everyone makes a model of the Missouri. But this is the largest and most detailed I have seen. Looked to be about 10 feet long.
Next is a Gato class submarine. Let me see which one. USS Rasher. As can be seen it has a very detailed interior.
Another with a highly detailed interior is the USS Sullivans and it is a Fletcher Class destroyer. This photo shows the amidships turret which seems awkward but gave the ship great balance. The next class had double gun turrets with 2 fore and made the ship very front heavy.
Last is either Saratoga or Lexington. Ah it is Lexington. It was completed in 1927 and was a bit old by WWII. Got sunk at Coral Sea. They should have save Saratoga as very few ships remain from that time

Thanks loads for this share, as a kid I only dreamed of models like these. These are masterpieces just like other artworks in galleries. The detail is unbelievable. I'm burnt out on the Missouri, my favorite Battleships are the North Carolina/Washington class with their smoothly curved superstructure compared to the straight angular lines of the South Dakota and Iowa class. The Washington is also one of the few battleships to have actually sunk another battleship.
Wow! At one time, the Naval Museum here was a stand alone museum. It’s now part of the huge Museum of the Regiments (MOR). They had models — not of this size, for sure, when the main building was on 17th. Now, there’s even less space, unfortunately.

Thank you very much Toyrebel. Yes BB63 over done and Washington would have been a great choice. At least they did Lexington instead of the Essex version of the Yorktown.

Amazing models used to be big into naval models years ago these are great but reading the naval history from WW2 which I am still into the actual day to day reality could be very brutal. The men that served have my admiration for what they went through.
Thank you very much BHIFOS. Despite what you here about battleships that is what you wanted to be on in WWII. Destroyers were the most dangerous, not much armor.
