    I generally avoid marcasite jewellery...

But this piece was a must have!
Cheap... immaculate condition and really big!

Unmarked silver, glass enamel (not cold painted).

Marcasites are set, not glued, and so sparkly!
    The pistils are articulated...

    7cm (2.7/8") wide.
    8cm (3.1/8") long.

Stunning brooch Pascale! The enamel work is so good, and the marcasites have a purpose, not just there for glitter.
I can see you wearing this (on a chain?).

A really lovely brooch Pascale in such wonderful condition!
It must be an older piece too with the set not glued marcasites I would think:-)

This looks like something I think I would have to see to really appreciate all that it is !~

Betweenhelens, thank you! What is unique is the cheap price I paid... her sister is currently on rubylane for more than 500! ô_Ô

Ha, Gillian, thank you! This is indeed the biggest brooch of my collection :-))

Jenni! Thanks! The big Chinese peacock freshwater pearls complement is well and allows me to wear it... As a brooch, it is too heavy for my sweaters :-)

Scott! Always a joy to see you here, thank you for your kind comment :-)

Karen, as you are too a brooch enthusiast, I highly appreciate your comment!
You're right, the marcasites give it even more 3D effect. I wear it as it is on last pic, with big Chinese peacock freshwater pearls as a clasp in front :-)

Judy, thanks! Yes, the marcasites being set and sparkling white (not dull or yellowish) in color are a clue for older pieces :-)

Phil, it is really even better in person! I can't even imagine the time it took to set all these minuscule marcasites, knowing they can break so easily under pressure...
Thank you my friend for your interest and love :-D

The rubylane one (described as an orchid...) for comparison

I love your brooch it’s beautiful and it has a lot of meaning, I thought the colours were of the Suffragettes Movement and double checked and sure enough if you google Suffragettes jewellery your brooch or very similar will be one of the first to come up..:-)

The orange enamel may make it not, but not sure now..:-/..will have to look further..love this sort of thing..:-)

Valentino, Betweenhelens! Thank you so much for your admirative and so kind comments :-D

Inky, thank you for your input, but it is not relative to suffragettes... plus not in the time frame for that, it is 50' era!
Women in Britain over the age of 30, meeting certain property qualifications, were given the right to vote in 1918, and in 1928 suffrage was extended to all women over the age of 21.
An informative reading about "suffragette jewellery" myth:

Big thank you for your interest and love back to you :-)

It's so pretty. I wanted to put a link to a MA Thesis, it is a good read. K.N. Erdington, Orchids: The Elite Flower. It is available from Smithsonian with a simple search in Google.
