This 1 3-4"H x 2"W brooch shows a mother and baby elephant, their bodies pearly beige enamel, with white & champagne rhinestone accents, brown eyes and a faux pearl on Mom's head. By St John, founded in 1962 by Marie & Robert Grey, with entwined SJ logo on back. Brooch ca '90s

Ahh- it's so sweet! Actually this is my favourite of your brooches! (I say that at seeing every one of your brooches!) Elephants are such great creatures anyway they make wonderful artistic pieces like this.

Mary I love your last comment about working at the paper, may I keep it you didn't swear, will remove though if you ask again - you are so talented with doing graphic art, newspaper writing AND editing, super cool! And I love that the publisher would take you guys for a drink once a wk, occasionally I had a generous employer who would treat to buying lunch, after work drinks etc. Though my main 'career' was medical typist-transcriptionist, in early days I did a lot of temp work, doing receptionist and secretarial work at all sorts of co's, law offices, travel agencies, even for the racetrack investigators where FBI agents would stop by and we did reports of unlawful activities like horse doping, race fixing etc. When you're young you have a short attention span, I loved 'jumping around' lol
About St John, I think they were just snooty, in the ads she (or her model) had a nose in the air type look :)

Don't worry I would not have written about the mob either - once I was a temp sec'y in a construction trailer, was so terrified picked up my handbag at lunch & took off :)
