J.&L. Lobmeyr were, in the late Victorian period, a leading glass refinery with a selling room in Vienna. They were especially famous for their high qualty 'Islamic' and 'Historism' décors. Here, a goblet of the so called 'Minnesinger Series', designed by Richard von Kralik in 1888, is presented. It shows a medieval noble couple painted in thick enamel, obviously inspired by the illustrations of the ancient 'Manesse manuscript'. The irisation of the light green glass is highly visible on the black background. The goblet stands 24.5 cm high, the diameter is 11.5 cm and its weight is 1260 gr.

Just to add a few things about the Kraliks : “Richard Kralik was born on October 1, 1852, the son of the German-Bohemian glass manufacturer Wilhelm Kralik von Meyrswalden in Eleonorenhain / Lenora (Bohemia), the first of five children from his second marriage to Louise, née Louise. Lobmeyr.”
