Have had this for a couple of years now, so time for him to make an entrance.
Judging by other ones I have seen by googling, I do think I have happened to score a real bargain for $60.00, or I hope so at least so I don't look like a total idiot LOL.
The seller's description from memory was "gold pin in a box" or words to that effect!!!
So, this is what I think..... Victorian 1870 or so, unmarked gold, Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire,Pearl and the eyes look Amethyst?
Peasejean has a butterfly brooch that is very similar and with the openwork back as well.
This butterfly itself is very small being about 2cm across and the same long. The whole pin is about 7cm top to bottom.
The fitted box that the pin came in is from A. Saunders London, and 815 George St Sydney. The nearest I can date this at the Sydney address is 1887 - 1927. Could go either way I suppose to being the original box!
Not much else I can say, except I love it....hope you do too! Thanks, Judy
