Here is some more of my deco collection in Jazz Age designs and colors of red, black, cream, and chrome. All the objects are circa 1930's. The two rare cocktail trays are iconic, and the smaller one with wooden handles is most likely European. The round powder box is made by Chase, while the smaller square cigarette box is most likely European. The oh-so-deco, larger rectangular cigarette box is made by the Elgin Otis, and it's missing its removable pocket lighter in the middle (which is pretty typical for this item). The Evans cigarette box is very rare. The picture frame/mirror in the back is most likely made for the Evercraft giftware line of the Everedy Company.

NY State Museum in Albany NY has the same tray on display on their Art deco section.

Glenn, where is the Art Deco section in the Museum? I love deco, and go there often. I've never seen that though!

I take pictures of things that I like on my travels. Fortunately I still have the picture of the same tray taken on one of my visits. It is located on an ongoing exhibit of "THE METROPOLIS", its about NYC at the turn of the century, left area of the museum. Check out the pictures that I posted under Eras+Themes/Art deco.

I just learned from Judith Miller's "20th Century Design" book that the larger tray depicts "the wheels and bumper of a speeding car" to represent the speed of travel in the 1930's. I know it's an abstract design, but I just don't see the car she's talking about.

I just got word from a helpful lighter collector, that the red and black smoking set in my collection was made by Elgin Otis (and not Evans as I originally described), which was a joint venture of the Elgin and Otis Manufacturing companies. The smoking set dates from from the mid-1930's. So you can't trust all your reference books when collecting--updated my information accordingly with this new information.
