This is an English verge fusee made in 1767 by watchmaker John Edmonds. The movement has a very beautiful plate, pierced parts and balance assembly. The balance has great movement when running. The inner case is gold gilt. The outer case is covered in shagreen which is in great condition considering it is 247 years old. In the 17th and early 18th centuries, the term "shagreen" began to be applied to leather made from sharkskin or the skin of a rayfish. I have a very nice solid gold key to set and wind this watch.
