The 1760 Irish Chippendale table was one of a pair once owned by Sir Casper Purdon Clarke, 1847 - 1911 who at the beginning of the century came over (1880) from England to become Director of The Metropolitanto Museum and returned to England before his death. In about 2020, I was contacted by the director of the John D. Rockefellor museum in Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate. Her name is Katrina.
Mr Rockefeleller had bought his table the exact match to this table and had his bill for the table, dated March 1908which he bought in 1908 from Tiffanys in New York. Tiffanys at that time sold antique furniture also. Rockefeller's table now sits in the Entrance foyer in Kykuit. These tables were usually made in pairs. We did not know why they got separated. This was made in Dublin, Ireland and is now part of my collection. I have the Coat of Arms of Canada over the table now. I bought my table in 2010 in Philadelphia from Freeman's Auction !~
Some restoration was done to left side of the table by Bernard's Restoration of Philadelphia just before I had it shipped to Canada. He was one of the best people doing refiinish work I was told.
I love it !!!! Just like I remember it -- and you still have that coat of Arms too !!
Love it -- a Zillion times
Thanks antiquerose, appreciate, yes I still have the large one. I did sell the smaller 30 inch one to a dealer who had to have it. I had another though to replace the smaller one. The smaller one was just over 100 lbs. but had help to hang it up.
@ Phil ..... It just warms my heart to recall that I was your home with such ~Quality~ things surrounding me. I was so totally amazed then and still now....and then to meet up here again!!
Merry Christmas my Friend !!!
The best Christmas Wishes dear Rose !
Wow Phil,
This is incredible looking!! Such beautiful carvings.
Such stately elegance the whole room is wonderful Phil ! :)
What a beauty. I can tell that it might be one of the favorite things you ever acquired?
You're right about the legs :-))
I like it without the marble top as well!
Phil, your table is a true wowser! The strength of the lion mask and paws mixed with the delicacy of the garland is working so well with the dark wood and the black marble...
I noticed the coat of arms on some of your posts, I thought it was gilded wood, but CAST IRON! Your restoration on it is a great success :-)
I envy Rose for having the luck to visit your collection, so much to see and admire!
GLORIOUS STILL !!!
THOSE LEGS !!!!
ATTENTION !!!
Outstanding piece Phil German ornate gothic is my favorite furniture but Irish ornate dark like this is a close second. The more gargoyles the better lol . Have a wonderful safe xmas Phil

Absolutely beautiful Phil... love the table, but the Coat of Arms... you did an amazing job!
Cast Iron? How did you ever anchor it to the wall? The giltwork is outstanding.

Good Day Phil, I don't know if you've ever heard of Bernard Danenberg, but the really old Mickey watches I've gotten as of late, are from his private collection. He's told me some stories on how he came got these from the Disney artist in Burbank
Thank you Caperkid, thanks so much !
Thank you Manikin for your very kind words, you are a gem. xoxo
This is a fabulous post. The table is beyond gorgeous and Bernard did a perfect job...I love how you said it could take off at a moments notice! It's so true. And the coat of arms! What a great idea, perfect piece of art and both pieces absolutely belong together, nice job!
I'm still curious about that avatar you have up there. It's beautiful and it looks as if it's coming right out of the wall, or doorway. What is it prey tell.
Hi Shareurpassion, I am not exactly sure of what you are talking about, possibly the boy singing and playing a mandolin. You can see the full front in some of the statue lamp pics I posted.
Thank you MALKEY, and beyemvey, for stopping by !
I'll have to go back and look. Maybe it was you in front of a print you put up for Christmas, I see you replaced the last photo you had up. It looked like Icecycles behind a staircase. It' was real nice.
Thanks rocker-sd for the love and comment ! The wall is actually concrete so that is great for hanging heavy items. All the things on the wall are heavy and the heaviest may be the art deco mirror in the kitchen which I love.
Thanks Caperkid, you're the best !
I have been contacted by someone who has the identical side table as mine. Most definitely sold by Tiffany's NYC in 1908.
Wow, Phil, that is awesome-did you have an idea that it was from Tiffanys or was it a surprise? The table is just so beautiful! I love seeing pics of your home-it is stunning :)
Thanks Mrstyndall, no I had no idea that it was sold out of Tiffany's and they thought the table was fr0m the 1760's. I bought the table in 2008 from Freemans auctions in PA. I was contacted by one of the archive specialists at Kykuit Mansion out of New York, forget where it is. She had contacted me today, May 23, 2018, after she seen this posting in CW !! Hopefully she will disclose furthur info and I can add it in the next few weeks. It sort of had the same date that I figured it was from but they have detailed records which are from 1908 which will shed some more light.
Phil, how exciting! I had never heard of Kykuit Mansion before. I did a google search of the mansions interior rooms. It is gorgeous-I saw a couple tables that looked somewhat similar to yours. Look forward to knowing what you find out!
Well isn't this special..Very Nice indeed...
