Antinea, Rare Art Deco Car Mascot circa 1920 to 1924
A totally original and extremely rare car mascot from the famed collection of Pascale Giordano. This was the star piece of the auction in my view and the last few mascots are from this collection which I may have overlooked the auction if this piece would not have come up. Solid bronze, both the cap and the mascot, alternating bronze and chrome finishes ! Amazing !~
Pascale was a lawyer from Rome Italy, who owned one of the largest ever collection of car mascots. He was passionate about art and cars, he assembled an exceptional collection in his quest for more than 30 years. Almost 1000 of his mascots were sold in France February 7th, 2016. I was able to get this fantasy piece, one of his finest. I only know of one other I have seen in the collection of M. Legrand who wrote all the French books on Mascots, plus possibly one sold several years ago. The mascots made by M. Podiebrad are rare, and there seems to be no information on the sculptor in books or on the internet !!~ This mascot is made entirely of bronze and has an extremely rare double patina, of the chrome and bronze finishes !! Thank you Mani, for all the help with the circus of paperwork to obtain this complete gem and other mascots from this most famous collection !! Hopefully I can get a good base made which I am in talks with a maker. It has taken me a long time to post this as in between I have bought so many things, Circa 1924. Love to you all !
