Two months ago I came across this vase at the Collector's monthly fair in Sydney, Australia. Dutch pieces are always nice to see and this one was not expensive. It was cheap because it is a darker piece - taste these days is for the pieces on a matte white background. You can see some of these pieces here on CW:
The Plateelfabriek De Distel or Thistle Pottery Factory was founded in 1895 by Jacobus M. Lob in Amsterdam. De Distel was taken over by the Goedewaagen pottery in Gouda in 1923.
My hope is that this is one of the designs of Lambertus aka Bert Nienhuis (1873 - 1960) who was artistic designer at de Distel until 1912.
The pot is four sided.
The glaze is very thick, very matte with 'Slibdekor' decoration in black, brown, ochre and white on the dark green. I think I can see a decorators mark to the left of the factory mark.
It is 22 cm or 8.7" tall.
Any help on this piece would be appreciated.
